Gunner Top Shiloh 2005 RBCSWO!
The Rare Breed Club of South Western Ontario (RBCSWO) recently published the final standings to the 2005 show season... We are extremely pleased to announce that Gunner was the TOP Shiloh for the year, and finished second in the highly competitive herding group, and forth OVERALL!
On November 22nd 2005 the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) posted the results of Gunner's hip X-rays... The results, OFA EXCELLENT!
To the non-breeder, this designation may not mean too much. But, to those breeding shilohs and/or those focused on canine health, this is a huge event. In over 10 years that the OFA has maintained it's database on hips, as of December 2005 only 22 of the over 300 Shiloh Shepherd hip results have been rated as EXCELLENT. Gunner is among a very special group - the "best of the best".
The OFA is considered the source for health testing (eg. hips, elbows, cardiac, thyroid, etc). Any reputible breeder will readily have OFA (or PennHip) results and certification available for any Shiloh that is part of their breeding program. The only way to ensure that health defects are weeded out of the gene pool is via testing performed by organizations such as the OFA. By performing these tests and ensuring that Shilohs with forms of defects such Degenerative Joint Disease (DJD) are removed from the breeding pool, we can help ensure that only the healthiest Shilohs are being used to further the development of the breed.
Don't just take a breeder's word that their dogs have been tested. Ask to see the results, or check with the OFA. Only dogs with OFA normal hips, eblows, cardiac etc are issued certificates.
